Blessings in a Backpack
Chicago Sinai funds and coordinates the “Blessings in a Backpack” program at two schools in our community: Ogden International (Ogden East and Jenner campus) and LaSalle Language Academy. Students from food insecure families rely on the federally funded breakfast and lunch program to provide them with meals during the week but may not have adequate food for the weekend. To ensure that no child goes hungry, Sinai volunteers come together each week to pack bags of non-perishable food to be sent home every Friday with students to get them through the weekend and back to school on Monday ready to learn.
We rely on donations from Sinai members to support this critical food program. It only costs $120 to provide food for one child for the entire school year and make a difference.
