I was divorced, had recently completed treatment for breast cancer and was working a demanding nursing job. I knew I wanted to continue raising my children Jewish but I was very concerned about the requirements needed for Hebrew School.
“So a friend encouraged us to join Sinai. We connected. It’s a non-judgmental place; whatever time you and your family can contribute is enough.
“Aaron and I went to New Orleans two years ago for his bar mitzvah project (Charlotte was too young then); we all went this year and we’re all thinking of returning next year. In his bar mitzvah dvar torah, Aaron explained he didn’t feel he had to stick to the kosher food rules to be Jewish. That was validating for him.
“Sinai has been a second home to me and my family and that I have really enjoyed singing in the volunteer choir.”
