I had just moved downtown from the suburbs and joined right before the High Holy days began. “My relationship with Sinai started, quite literally, 400 steps from my condo. I had just moved downtown from the suburbs and joined right before the High Holy Days began.
“The very first Friday night, I walked in the door; [President] Bruce Miller took my hand … and pointed to the sanctuary. At first, it was a little odd, listening to the organ, like sitting in a church. That changed quickly because I connected with women and couples at the Oneg afterwards; it was a great experience.
“To me, belonging to a synagogue is like joining a health club; I need to be a member, to be engaged and to support Judaism. Today, I go to Torah study, to Make Yourself More, volunteer at Ronald McDonald House and at Fourth Presbyterian – everything at Sinai educated me and caused me to explore my neighborhood. It’s an amazing place. Most important, it’s a warm and welcoming place to belong to.
“Community is important to me. I’ve found it at Sinai.”
